I have been thinking about a title for my book and gathering ideas for book covers. I like the title UnSilenced, since some have used 1Corinthians 14:34-45 and 1Timothy 2:11-15 to silence women in the church. The idea being that, in the writing of this book, I would be giving a voice to women silenced by ignorance and poor theology.
I want to design a book cover that will get people’s attention. If they are looking at a bunch of books for sale on a shelf, I want my book to reach out and grab them. I want the cover to make them ask the question “What’s that book about?!” I came across the photo below of a woman with a man’s have over her mouth. I like the photo’s intensity and the strength in the woman’s eyes. The image would convey an idea of a man deliberately silencing the woman. It would not be hard for a photographer to produce something similar.
Another thought I had was to place some tape over a woman’s mouth with either 1Cor 14:23-24 or 1 Tim 2:11-15 written on the tape. This image would place the emphasis on the scripture being used to silence women, but would be less dramatic.
Here is another idea using sound waves:
Here is a photo from a cover shoot I did with photographer Suzette Allen. My daughter is the woman in the photo:
